THE SCOTSMAN - 23rd August 2008 This simple
but subtly inventive show makes demands
on the target audience's imagination, which is all the recommendation
it needs. That there's lots of creative action
and movement to keep the attention rapt makes it an amusing
and unchallenging hour for parents as well.
The show is split into three stories, each performed by the same
four-person cast. As well as Mrs Wobble, who can't walk steadily
enough to avoid serving her food all over the audience, we are introduced
to Mr Biff the Boxer, who has to get fit before he gets in the ring
with Mr Bop and Mrs Plug the Plumber, whose specialities include
foiling robbers and saving round-the-world cruise liners when their
hulls have been holed. She's also possibly the only plumber in history
to turn down a cup of tea before getting on with work.
The stories are told through mime, rhyming
couplets and the occasional background illustration or well-placed
sound effect. Each is busy with action and visual set-pieces, but
just enough not to overload a young audience, while
the cast is also uniformly talented at providing consistent, watchable
children's theatre.
