A girl and her brother paint mythical dreams:
They live the fates of mortals and the adventures of Gods through their games,
Through their toys, through their crayons
And their voices create radio plays.
A girl and her brother grow up –
They continue to follow their own Myth Religion.
Ancient stories explain their pains, their troubles, their joys, their daunting emotions.
And now we hear a young Woman’s voice.
Stories, myths, gods and goddesses,
Mortal souls that wander the Earth,
Souls in pain that float through the mist of the Underworld,
Have invaded her dreams and taken over her sleep.

Inviting us into her subconscious, The Woman allows her dreams to unfold in front of our eyes. And once more they take the shape of Greek myths: Psyche and Eros’ forbidden love is born at the top of a mountain, Echo and Narcissus fade away when they can’t have the one they desire And wide-eyed Persephone is dragged down to dark Hades’ world. And it is in this same Underworld that the Woman finds her brother once more And is able to share her anxieties with him one last time. Goddess has been developed through Forbidden’s Freestyle Performances by Steve Brownlie, Ruth Hutchinson, Richard Mann, Alexander Perkins and Pilar Orti, who is directing the piece. Using Greek myths as a starting point, what has emerged is a surreal, movement-based piece with plenty of room for poetry and charming humour to creep in. Joining the ensemble performers in this journey to the subconscious are Forbidden’s designers Tracey Hammill and Kate Rance, and also H W Tamplin, composing original music for the company for the first time. I do think of you divine by Daniel Sagrario.
